MISTAKE #1: Making So Many Changes (More Than Enough) In The First 30 Days

When we start our fitness journey, we’re really excited about reaching our goals as fast as possible! So we put it all at once right at the start.

We go from not exercising at all to a 4 or 5 day group class at the nearby gym. And then we start putting restrictions on ourselves- “No more fast food or sweets or snacks. I’m going to follow my diet strictly for next 30 days”

Maybe, this does work for some people but not for everyone. We end up feeling exhausted with the strict routine and couldn’t follow it for long term. And then we are dissatisfied because we don’t see the progress as quickly as we wanted.

There is no help from the fitness marketing that guarantees strikingly fast outcomes in no time at all. We feel huge disappointment when we are giving our best and still feel it’s not enough. Then we come to the conclusion that nothing will work for us.

We all have been there!

It is a reality that we will not be able to stick to the routine, when we make so many changes all at once. It results in a continuous, start-stop cycle of trying to make it to your fitness goals.

MISTAKE #2: Depending a lot on motivation

Did you ever hear a person say, “I just need motivation to do this or that or to start exercising and taking care of my health”? Sounds familiar? Maybe, you have also said it many times.

But, what motivation really is?

Motivation is like adding fuel to a bonfire. It does spark things up but only for a bit, but it departs as quickly as it comes.

Feeling motivated is magnificent! We are not discouraging you. Motivation does help to take us out of our comfort zone and make things more enjoyable.

The difficulty is that the motivation is not permanent.

What happens when we are demotivated? Do we just add more fuel to try to light the fire, while waiting for the next wave of motivation to spark? There is surely a better way which gets you better results.

Rather, we follow a systematic approach and add logs to that fire that keeps it burning even when we feel less motivated.

MISTAKE #3: Instead of Big Victories, focusing on small details

A lot of information out there about fitness and health makes it hard to be really aware about what to focus on.

We try to follow an influencer’s diet plan or follow a workout routine of a bodybuilder, investing our time and energy into something that may have a small impact on our result which we are looking to achieve, and that too not at all sometimes.

These may look like:

– My favorite influencer is having 2 cups of coffee a day, I should also have 2 cups of coffee a day! You decide the quantity for caffeine intake for the day but ignore how much veggies and fruits you should be eating in a day.

– Going to the gym 6 days a week without giving your body proper time for recovery.

-Arguing if sugar or jaggery is better but not having the right amount of protein according to your activity levels throughout the day

–Focusing more on getting fatigued from your exercise session, instead of focusing on gradually increasing the workout intensity and improving strength.

–Trying to lose weight by adding more cardio instead of eating healthy and nutritious food.

The truth is, focusing on the things that don’t matter much takes away the same amount of time and energy, which we could have invested in the right areas and seen great improvements in our fitness levels.
